WAR'S END
by Victoria Bowen Woolshed Press, $16.95The Great War changed everyone's lives. This book tells the story of one Australian family's experience of the end of war. Nell is 12 years old and has experienced what is like to be without a father during the war. But then the armistice comes and the men are now on their way home. At the same time a Spanish influenza epidemic hits Australia. Nell and her family reflect on their lives without their father. They miss him and Nell grasps the gap her father has left in her life. This is a beautiful, entrancing story. I feel it is suitable for children of 10 years of age onwards. But adults may even enjoy it. I give it a rating of nine out of 10.REBEKAH WALSHSt Pius X Primary School, Unanderra
